I think Chevron used to have a difference but I've forgotten what it was way back in the past. If I don't see Chevron, Shell, Sunoco, I do the best I can in picking something local. Mobil here in CA is not too high grade, and Arco is basically low value. We also see Rotten Robbie, Valero, some 76 stations.

"National Brands" and "Independent Stations" can possibly be one in the same. In my work area, there are 7 Sunoco stations. Only ONE of which is "a corporate store". The rest are independently owned and operated. Anyone passing off the interstate who ended up at one of the other 6 stations and did not want any gas besides one that was a "National Chain" would get gas and not think twice about it. I personally feel that If you are going to a gas station, you need to be aware of whether or not it is an independent business or not. As it is the American Dream to own your own whatever and make a life for your self, corporate operated stations have far more checks and balances in the operations and quality of their stores. I feel that the only stores (even in general) that should be supported are those who uphold high cleanliness, safety, and ethical standards. That is not to say that ALL independent stations are horrible; that would be showing pure ignorance if I were to say that. My only concern is that it is too easy for an independent station who merely receives one type of gasoline (in my example Sunoco gas) to attract customers based on a national label. Those are my thoughts... a bit long winded, but my thoughts none the less.
