Shell to Invest $300 Million on LNG Refuelling Station Network

OIL Price -- In an attempt to entice owners of trucking fleets to invest in trucks that run on super chilled natural gas the oil major Royal Dutch Shell is set to invest more than $300 million on creating a series of liquefied natural gas filling stations across the US.

James Burn, Shell’s manager of LNG transportation fuels, said that they will develop 200 LNG pumps across 100 Travel Centers of America refuelling stations in such a way as to allow LNG trucks to travel throughout the whole US. Burns said that trucking companies are reluctant to invest in LNG due to the uncertainty of availability of the fuel. “They want to have some comfort that the fuel is available,” he said. “We want to be the company that provides that comfort.”

Shell also intend to further attract truck fleets to by LNG trucks a

This is a great decision on Shell's part. I would prefer to keep the politicians out of it because they just mess things up 99% of the time. Building out the interstates will get things jump started.

MDTDriver writes, "And the price of one gallon of LNG HIGHER THAN GAS."

MDTDriver do you have PROOF of that statement?????

It is easy to type some Bovine Feces and foist it off as fact, but a whole lot harder to prove what you say.

I'd convert my current vehicle to run on LNG if there was a refueling station in my city.

A couple of thousand to convert my current vehicle, which still looks and runs like new with just over 80K on the odometer, is a whole lot cheaper than buying a new vehicle.

This is good news not only for commercial trucking companies but for anyone who would want to own a NG vehicle. When all the NG filling stations are built NG will be available along major highway routes across the entire country. If use of NG cars picks up because of this, more gas stations will invest in NG fueling machinery so there will be even more places to gas up.

That price guarantee contract should encourage some commercial truck operators to make the switch if they are thinking about it.

This has to happen, and truck stops are the natural place for it to start. Only question is will LNG or CNG turn out to be the form of natural gas that fuels our commercial fleet? I doubt the infrastructure for both can be developed.

First build the infrastructure.
Secondly, make the price of LNG vehicles affordable.
Now we are on the road to reduce our independency of oil.

Good for shell to invest in alternatives- but frankly they are among the highest cost stations in the area- so this may also be an attempt to stay relevent in the North american retail fuel market.

A few years ago Natural Gas went up in price because of shortage, now it's down, it'll go back up after they get us to change over.
